Meet Jonah Robson from The Woodlands Methodist Church!

One of our bigger supporters is The Woodlands Methodist Church (TWMC). They provide significant donations, meeting spaces, and so much more for our program. Several of our mentor groups meet every Sunday at the Loft church service at TWMC.

We interviewed Jonah Robson, the Director of Local Missions at TWMC, to better understand why he and the church are so generous to our program.

What about The Champion Project made you want to contribute to our organization?

Here at TWMC we could not be more honored to partner with The Champion Project. Just like their heart, we believe that everybody deserves a champion. They are so intentional in creating positive experiences that these sweet kids would never have. We have seen the fruit of TCP offering consistent and Godly mentorship and so much more to these kids, in them deciding to give their lives to Jesus. It truly is a ministry that is creating generational change. I believe that these youth are some of the most unreached in this nation, and an encounter with the love of Christ can change everything for them. That’s why we have loved having them apart of our community, so that they might be able to experience and know their identity in Christ as beloved, fully seen, fully known, fully loved. The staff at TCP burns for Jesus, and we love that they love our church as well. This has been one of the most beautiful relationships, and is not only a gift to our community but to the greater foster care system.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your organization.

My name is Jonah Robson, and I am the Director of Local Missions here at the Woodlands Methodist Church. I feel like the Lord has been preparing me for this job ever since I was a young boy back in Kansas. I grew up doing lots of street outreach, serving in homeless shelters, and ministering to the most vulnerable. This was something that my family instilled in me from a young age. So, now I am in a position where I get to minister to some of the most vulnerable in and outside of our community. I never thought that I would be called to ministry, but the Lord is sneaky in his ways. If you have been to TWMC, you know that our church cares deeply about the mission of God. We have a very active body who serves so faithfully alongside our ministry partners, especially The Champion Project. We believe that we live a life of worship unto God, which affects the way that we serve and love on our brothers and sisters. The love that we have received from being in relationship with Christ, we can give away to others. Christ’s model of self-sacrifice is one that we try to model to a lost and dying world. I love my church and that I get to serve here.

What is your favorite memory or experience with TCP?

My absolute favorite memory with TCP, was when 6-8 students on a Sunday morning gave their lives to Jesus and were baptized in front of our church body. I cried as I watched them come up out of those waters and hear the roar from a church family who loves and embraces them. Their demeanor changed that day, and we as a church will never be the same from this moment. The Lord placed the lonely in family (Ps. 68:6) and you could tell that they knew that they had a community where they belonged. Heaven was also roaring in that moment, for those who had come home and found their true home in Jesus.

What would you like for our community to know about the church?

The Woodlands Methodist Church is a church that believes in the power of prayer, worship, and mission. Our world needs an awakening to Jesus Christ, and we diligently sow seeds so that we might see kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. If you are looking for a community of belonging that stands on the truth of the holy scriptures and loves spending time in the presence of God, we would love to have you join us anytime. Our ministry is truly for the whole family here.
